This exterior restoration of the front of a Victorian duplex presented many challenges. The old porch roof was near collapse, so a total rebuild was called for, but the client wanted to reuse the original 100-year-old turned columns, while adding a full-sized balcony for the upstairs unit (with code-approved safety railing). He also wanted to retain the traditional Victorian look without making the house too frilly. The result is a traditional Victorian entry with just a little bit of a Craftsman feel. Most of the millwork was created on-site.
