This bathroom remodel was instigated with a very specific need in mind. The clients are a family with three young children. As a general rule, your average living spaces is not necessarily designed for the comfort and accessibility of small children. The simple reason for this is that small children, not only grow, but grow quickly. Rendering a child-sized space obsolete within a few years, or even months.
However, this family had an even greater need for accessibility. Their youngest child is "a person of short stature," a condition also known as "dwarfism." This means her full adult height will be 4 foot 10 inches - or less. Throughout her life, she'll encounter frustrating spaces designed without regard to people of her stature. Anticipating her needs, her parents have begun to modify their home to accommodate every member of their family.
This beautiful, charming little girl was ready to achieve some independence in her daily washing routine. To this end we remodeled one of their bathrooms to be both beautiful and accessible. The proof was in the pudding when, the day after we finished, she woke up early and with no help from anyone but herself, used her new accommodations to do her morning washing.
